The major cause of high rate of unemployment in Nigeria is a well developed scheme called National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is a program set up by the Nigerian government to involve Nigerian graduates of degree and hnd in nation building and the development of the country. This scheme has been a wonderful scheme in which everyone always wish to go through due to the respect and colourful of the scheme.
The great developed scheme by the government still stands as the major factor responsible for high rate of unemployment in the country because of the abuse of the scheme by government and private organizations.

What is Unemployment?
Unemployment is a term referring to individuals who are employable and seeking for a job but are unable to find one. Furthermore, it is those people in the workforce or set of people who are available for work that does not have an appropriate job. Unemployment serves as one of the main problem of our economy
How NYSC become major factor for high rate of unemployment in Nigeria?
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is definitely the major cause of high rate of unemployment in the country for the underlisted reasons:

Majority of organizations in the country are fond of employing corps members into their organization simply because it is considered as a cheap labour where they pay little or nothing for service rendered by a graduate who uses all his skills, experience and knowledge in the service of such organisation.
Both government and private organizations request for corps members to work for them in their organization which leaves no vacancy for graduates who are searching for job to be given full employment.
The national youth service corps (NYSC) produces different sets of batches and streams of corps members thrice in a year by which the ones passing out from the scheme are been replaced by the new sets of corp members.

Almost more than 800,000 civil servants from federal, state and local government level retired every year and those who are still in service dies on daily basis without full replacement into the vacant position.
Our leaders are fond of keeping all those slots as ghost workers and earn the salaries, whereas most of the vacancies are of high rank officers in service. Majority of workers in both government and private organizations are almost 75% of corps members.

Solution to the problem of unemployment cause by the NYSC scheme
The NYSC scheme should be reformed for skills acquisition only.
Both government and private organizations should not be allowed to make use of the corps members.
Their should be a fixed starting paying scale given to the private organizations to pay their employees base on the level of their qualifications.
The NYSC trainees should be empowered with their working tools after the one year training on skills acquisition.
Painful punishment should be given to those who are found with earning ghost workers salaries.

Conclusion
With all the reasons and solutions stated above on NYSC been the major source of high rate of unemployment in Nigeria. The government should reform the NYSC scheme by giving them skills acquisition for the full one year of their service, which will also improve the economy growth by having people with different acquisition skills.
Both private and government organizations should be ban from employing corps members rather fill the vacant positions with appropriate people.
